If you've found this blog, you're probably interested in learning more about the Virginia Creeper Trail. If you don't know what that is, you're in for a treat. The VCT is a 34 mile long former railroad that is now a multi-use trail in southwestern Virginia. It begins on Whitetop Mountain, descends through Damascus and ends in Abingdon, VA. Over 200,000 people each year bike, hike, or horseback ride on the trail.
I live in Abingdon and get out on the trail at least once or twice a week, usually on the sections closer to Abingdon but occasionally toward the eastern end as well.
My intention with this blog is to report on my experiences and observations of life on the trail and to be a clearninghouse for reports from others who use the trail, particularly on sections I'm on less often. If you've recently ridden or trekked part of the VCT, please leave a comment or drop me an email and I will share your report. Please include the specific section you're commenting on, whether you traveled by bike, horse or foot, and whatever you observed. This can be a note on trail conditions, needed repairs, how many people you encountered, fishing reports (the trail parallels some of the finest trout fishing in all of Virginia), fall leaf season, animals or plants you encountered, or even a little local history if you are so inclined. In other words, share the sorts of things you'd like to know about from others if you were headed out to enjoy a section of the trail.
That's what I intend to do. I hope you enjoy the blog and the trail.
